Summer Solstice Art Night: Galleries Open Until Midnight Across Mecklenburg
On the longest night of the year, over twenty galleries, studios, and art centres across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will open their doors for a region-wide celebration of art and light. The Summer Solstice Art Night, now in its seventh year, transforms the Baltic coast and lake district into a single, sprawling exhibition space connected by shuttle buses and cycling routes.
What to Expect
Participating venues range from the established — the Kunstmuseum Ahrenshoop and the Kunsthalle Rostock — to artist studios usually closed to the public. Special installations using natural and artificial light take advantage of the extended twilight, with several outdoor works designed specifically for the gloaming hours between sunset and full darkness.
Getting Around
Free shuttle buses connect the major venues on three circular routes: the Coastal Loop (Rostock to Ahrenshoop), the Lakes Circuit (Güstrow to Schwerin), and the Island Route (Rügen). Organisers recommend choosing one loop and planning for four to five venue stops. Each venue provides refreshments, and many feature live music alongside the visual art programming.
Practical Details
All venues are free to enter. The event runs from 6pm to midnight. A printed map and programme is available from tourist information offices across the region, and the event website includes a journey planner to help visitors build personalised itineraries.
